I used to think that the only way for a small or medium business to get new customers was through social media, and I spent years advocating for everyone to be active on all the platforms, until I realised that this is not a sustainable practice for so many businesses, and for so many reasons.

I experienced it first-hand when I grew my own community on social media and quickly felt on the verge of burnout from posting once a day for 365 days. Suddenly, I stopped.

All the Reasons Why I Took A Step Away From Social Media…

• Social media platforms and algorithms change literally every day, making it extra demanding to streamline the creation process;
• Video content is what algorithms want, yet it’s the most time-consuming type of content to create, produce and edit;
• If you want to win the social media game, you have to show up, post and engage everyday. If you snooze, you lose;
• After you do all of this, your social media post only has a shelf life of about 24 hours.

That’s when I turned to content that actually has longevity: long-form SEO-optimised content.

That is, adapting what you write on your website so that it matches the queries typed into the Google search bar by your ideal customer – or, optimising content so that it ranks on Google and that it appears in the top results for your chosen keywords.

And once you post this type of content, it lives on virtually forever, and continues attracting traffic from Google searches for years and years, until your website exists.

What’s the catch? Like really good wine, it takes time to enjoy the fruits of the work. For SEO to show the first results, it takes about 6 months. But I like good wine and I like slow living.

I’m a Pisces sun, Sagittarius rising, Libra moon, 5.1 Manifesting Generator, lover of living life wholly.

My surname literally translates to “pilgrim” and, in fact, I have been a bit of a nomad and wandered all over the world for the last 10 years of my life – I lived in 5 countries, went on 4 solo backpacking trips and changed 5 jobs, until I quit my last full time job to find my purpose.

Having time for myself allowed me to explore all the hobbies and passions I put in the back burner over the years, so I started painting, learning latte art, did some clay pottery (this was a fail), I was even a co-host on a few sound healing retreats! And in exploring these passions and crafts, what I actually learned is that I simply enjoy being in the moment, grounded, present. If possible, surrounded by trees and animals. Anything that is an antidote to the stresses of everyday life, works.

And that’s why I made a shift in my career as well, choosing to step away from the pressure of social media to SEO marketing. Now I’m able to enjoy my workweek and take time off, and I only post on social media when I feel like it, not because I have to ◡̈
